The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Sassoon Scholarship is open for entry.
Every year, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, in partnership with Sassoon Academy and Denman International, provide a life-changing scholarship to one lucky recipient.
The late, great Vidal Sassoon was a great proponent of education for hairdressers – after all, it was he that famously said, “you either create something great, keep it a secret and die with it, or benefit the craft by passing it on.”
This passion for education now lives on through the Sassoon Scholarship, offered exclusively to Fellowship members and providing an unparalleled opportunity to learn from one of the biggest names in hairdressing.
The recipient of the scholarship can attend two Sassoon Academy courses of their choice and, for 2020, will also be able to undertake two further training sessions online. They will receive a full professional tool kit from Denman, who will also cover up to £50 per day towards travel and accommodation costs. On top of that, the Scholarship recipient will also receive PR profiling through the Fellowship.
Niamh Morris from Jason Liddiard salon in Kent was the 2019 winner and enjoyed getting to choose courses that would suit her own specific career goals. Of winning, she said: “having the chance to learn such imperative skills and techniques has really helped expand my understanding of hairdressing. Taking what I learnt back to the salon allowed me to give my clients more refined, detailed looks due to a higher level of education being put to use. I also passed on some of the key skills I learned to my team, helping them include these techniques in their everyday cutting and colouring.”
To apply for this year’s scholarship, hairdressers need to fill out the simple application form on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s website, outlining their career achievements to date and explaining why they think they deserve to win. The closing date for entries is Friday 18th September. After this date, 12 candidates will be interviewed online, with a shortlist announced on Friday 25th September. The judging panel will consist of members of the Fellowship Chancellery, as well as a representative from Sassoon and Denman.
Fellowship for British Hairdressing President Ken Picton says: “Vidal Sassoon was Patron of Honour for the Fellowship, and dedicated to supporting the next generation of hairdressing talent. The Sassoon Academy offers some of the best training in the world, but it’s not always within reach of every hairdresser. With this in mind, the Sassoon Scholarship was set up with the support of Denman International to make this world-class education available to all. We can’t wait to see this year’s applicants, and are delighted to be able to offer a life-changing education opportunity to one lucky recipient after what has been a challenging year for the industry.”
To apply, visit www.fellowshiphair.com before Friday 18th September.
