Blue: It’s All About You!

Blue: It's All About You!

Classic Blue is the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2020 and as we quickly head into 2021 one of the biggest colour trends is said to be shade Al Aqua, another gorgeous blue hue that takes inspiration from the Caribbean seas.

Suzie McGill, Owner of Rainbow Room International’s Uddingston Salon and Dylan Brittain, Owner of Rainbow Room International’s George Square Salon and International Artistic Director’s at Rainbow Room International, make their predictions as to why blue, in all its spectacular hues, will be one of the shades we’re all talking about as we head into 2021:

“For 2020 it was all about bright, bold crazy colour and inventiveness and imagination when it comes to hair colour. Classic bright blues in particular are one of my favourite vibrant shades and work well on dark hair to create shine and a petrol effect – it’s a really great colour to add movement to the hair. Faded pastels were also a huge trend this year, in particular faded blues, which have been all over the catwalks. Faded pastel blue is a super low maintenance hair colour that provides a light blush on the hair, perfect for those who want to experiment with hair colour but don’t want it to be long-lasting.

“As we move into 2021, Aqua inspired blues and turquoise shades become more popular. These shades promote positivity and have a very futuristic and innovative feel to them. These shades are a great choice for clients who like to stand out from the crowd and who like to try those mermaid inspired hues, however, they’re also great as they are very diverse and versatile and can be adapted to the client by being as bold or as subtle as they like. Some clients may also wish to add subtle hints of these shades throughout their hair through balayage, face framing, highlights and by having panels of colours placed in sections of the hair. These shades are particularly great for those with warm undertones, as they really compliment the skin tone.

“With all of these shades maintenance is key, although the tones can look really great when faded out with some of the brighter blue hues turning a turquoise blue/green colour. To prolong the hair colour we always recommend a colour saving shampoo that’s used a couple of times a week, as well hair treatments and masks that help to seal in the colour and keep it looking its very best.”
