The world of beauty mourns an iconic and inspirational leader with the passing of Cheryl Tricoci, wife and business partner of Mario Tricoci.
A Chicago native and inspirational figure in the beauty industry, Cheryl Tricoci, died at the age of 76 at her home on May 9, 2022.
Cheryl was the wife of Mario Tricoci for 51 years. During this time worked tirelessly to complement her husband’s talent for cutting and styling hair. It was her acumen and pioneering insight into the potential of the salon business that brought them outstanding success. Indeed, Cheryl envisioned spa services like facials and manicure becoming as important to clients as their ‘cut & color’ services.
As is so common in the hairdressing industry, Cheryl Tricoci was also active in charity work and community services. For example, in 2018, she helped establish a beauty salon at Misericordia, a center on the North Side for people with developmental disabilities. This salon offered residents hairdresing services by professional hairdressers and students from Tricoci University of Beauty Culture. Mrs. Tricoci also was a fervent supporter of Bear Necessities, a pediatric cancer foundation. Through this association she would arrange makeovers for sick children and their families.
Mario Tricoci was an Italian immigrant when he opened his first salon in 1963. Instead, Cheryl was a Chicago native and worked in the modelling business. In the 1970s, together they opened the Mario Tricoci Salon at Woodfield Mall. This may well have been the first privately owned hair salon in a shopping mall in North America. She also sought out renowned interior designer Richard Himmel to help create the look of their first day spa.
Cheryl Tricoci embraced a hand-on and personal management style. She knew and often become friendly with Tricoci employees. The Estetica Team sends out heart-felt condolences to the Tricoci family and all who knew and loved Cheryl. Such and extraordinarily gracious presence will be sorely missed.
