When hair extension entrepreneur, Victoria Lynch’s business milestone celebrations approached she knew she wanted to incorporate hair into her outfit for something truly showstopping. To make this reality, she turned to multi-award-winning and local bridalwear specialist, Kate Fearnley, to work with on designing something truly bespoke with hair extensions.
The two-piece Tulle dress featured six wefts from Remi Cachet’s popular Elegance Nano Weft range, sewn into the tulle skirt in regular placement sections. The Jet Black, shade 1, 16” wefts were also tightly crimped to add texture to the overall design.
Kate coined the hair-raising request as “genius” and Victoria explains why she was so keen to wear something a little different this year, “I wanted to incorporate our products in some way and create something to show off what I love to do. The wefts created volume that replicates the lightness and lift of the lace sections, whilst the styling of the hair enhanced the hair’s texture to make the dress stand out and be different.”
“Victoria had a specific design brief. The dress had to be black, stand out red-carpet worthy and it had to incorporate the hair, which is not something I get asked for every day as a designer! I listened to the ideas that she had and there was a new two-piece that I had just made from my Bridal collection that I thought would be the perfect silhouette for the hair to be worked into.” shares Kate Fearnley.
“Initially, the idea of working with hair was a daunting task but the Remi Cachet hair extensions that Victoria provided were beautifully soft and of the highest quality which made my job easier. They reminded me of the tassels that we often use in our designs, and we attached them with the same sewing process.
“Once the base of the skirt had been made, we started to pin pieces of the hair onto the tulle while Victoria had the dress on so she could see exactly what it would look like. The hair was inserted under the frilled layers of tulle at the top of the skirt which had an immediate impact on the overall design. Working with black fabric is often hard to show detailing but Victoria had the fantastic idea of crimping the hair which gave the dress texture and volume, and this took it to the red-carpet level we had set out to design.”
The company’s award night was held on 1st July at Hilton Gateshead to celebrate the brands’ stylists’ achievements over the last year. As well as this, Additional Lengths celebrated its 20th Anniversary and their luxury brand, Remi Cachet celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 260 strong guest list of VIPs and hair stylists working with the business. The red-carpet event saw Victoria posing for a photo opportunity in her dress with the guests as they entered; before she hosted and presented the awards evening.
As an award-winning ethical brand, the Remi Cachet hair extensions used were originally donated for their Recycling Scheme and have now been removed from the dress to go back to recycling. Their scheme sees unwanted hair extensions be donated to children’s charity Little Lady Locks which creates wigs and hair pieces for children with hair loss; or be donated to the environmental charity, A Matter of Trust, who create hair matts that absorb debris and oil in waterways to clean up our oceans.
