Fellowship Centre of Excellence Achieves 2 Honours

In Autumn, West Suffolk College found out the Academy of Hair & Beauty Studies had received two nominations. The first was for the Outstanding Industry Employer Engagement Award. Teacher, Joanne Doward, had also received a nomination for the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.

Just last month, the college leaned that both nominations had been successful and they had been shortlisted to the last three entrants in each category before just last weekend being announced as first place in both categories.

The Head of the Academy has actively sought to build a relationship with The Fellowship for British Hairdressing. This is to gain accreditation as a Centre of Excellence for hairdressing education. This has involved meetings and visits where The Fellowship have inspected the facilities and have taught delivery and success data. President, Robert Eaton, has also visited the college. He combined a demonstration of his skills as Hairdresser of the Year with the endorsement of the academy’s link to The Fellowship.

Aside from this, all hairdressing and barbering students also have a Fellowship Membership. They can gain access to training events across the UK to enhance their college education. The Fellowship will also be running a Summer Finishing School at the end of the academic year for the highest achieving students. This is as a recognition for their skills and commitment to their qualification. This will give a unique and specialised learning opportunity to students that will set them apart when seeking employment.

Commenting on the success, Marnie Randall, Head of Academy of Hair & Beauty Studies said, “Needless to say, are both extremely proud of the team we work with and the achievements of our Academy.”

Barry Stephens, CEO at The Fellowship for British Hairdressing, said “We are so happy to have West Suffolks College as a Centre of Excellence for The Fellowship. The Academy has shown great engagement and commitment towards The Fellowship. We will continue building this fantastic relationship and supporting the students in their hairdressing education. A huge congrats goes to both The Academy and Teacher, Joanne Doward for their wins.”
