Green Salon Collective has received prestigious B Corp certification. It joins a growing group of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas. These are Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and also Customers.
The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80. They also have to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices. These include energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.
Green Salon Collective strives to ‘recycle the unrecyclable’. It does this by finding ways of reusing salon waste through recycling, composting as well as conversion into energy. From used foil and colour tubes, to salon towels, chemicals and hair cuttings, the GSC is the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland, with all profits raised donated to charity.
The company joins only 4200 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. These including 500 UK-based brands, such as The Guardian, The Body Shop, Innocent and Abel & Cole.
