As with the skincare we use, our hairstyle can have an anti-ageing impact too. From the colours, shapes and styling you combine you can add an air of youth. There are a few tricks we as professionals can carry out to help our clients look and feel younger.
A general colouring technique which can be applied to almost all hair colour is the act of painting freehand. “This is something as hair colourists we use a lot however we may overlook the anti-ageing benefits of this,” explains Gill Berry, JOICO European Design Team Member. “The clients hair appears sun kissed which emulates a warm, youthful glow and as it grows out it leaves no tell tale signs. My go to product for this is JOICOs Vero K-Pak Age Defy. A permanent crème colour that reverses obvious signs of ageing in the hair including texture, lustre and colour.
“For brunettes, adding slices of caramel and honey blonde tones can soften their colour and in turn their features. The addition of lighter pieces scattered carefully throughout also adds volume and depth to the hair that is synonymous with youth. When it comes to blondes on the other hand, contrast is key. One tone all over blonde is ageing and draining to the complexion. Use a drag root or a face framing lightness blending into a subtle balayage. By encouraging your blonde clients to add some darker colour into their hair, they will reap the anti-ageing awards.”
