A new era of training has launched with Kaikura – a personal development App designed specifically for hair & beauty professionals. Kaikura goes beyond technical training and the salon, focusing instead on identifying personal goals and how to achieve them – no matter how big or small – from wanting to buy a new car to opening a chain of salons.
Utilising pioneering animation and gaming technology Kaikura offers a unique place to go for nurturing and guidance that can be accessed easily, on the go, and at any time of the day – ideal for busy hair professionals who spend most of their time on their feet. The flexibility of animation allows Kaikura to be updated immediately to address issues affecting the sector, providing practical solutions, empowering individuals so they grow in business confidence.
Most people would love to have a mentor or life coach in their life but at a cost of around £1000 per day this is only accessible to 5% of our industry. Kaikura is your coach and mentor in your pocket – all day, every day at considerably less than the price of most people’s monthly coffee bills.
Kaikura has identified the three key salon roles:
- Kai – the apprentice
- Kura – the stylist/therapist
- The boss – the salon owner
This ground-breaking App offers advice to each, delivered from their perspective, focusing on what is important to them and how to achieve their goals. But this isn’t another passive training programme. Subscribers are given tasks to unlock their business acumen, with access to a mentor to provide bespoke guidance. The aim of Kaikura is for people to change the way they think in order to achieve what they want in life – both in the short term and for long term ambitions. New topics and tasks are added regularly ensuring continual growth and development. There are also breakout areas within the App to have positive discussions with other Members.
Personal development areas include:
- How to set SMART Goals
- Vision Boards
- What’s Stopping You
- Changing your mindset
- Bouncing Back
Kaikura is the result of an idea from award-winning salon owner, Steph Stevenson, owner of HNB salon in Sandbanks, Poole, sparked by a discussion with her local council who highlighted the high number of salon businesses making incomplete claims for the Additional Restriction Grant (ARG) Steph herself was then awarded Government funding through Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to create a programme of on-going training for those at all levels in the industry, changing mindsets so ensure consistent personal growth and business success. And for this reason, salons and professionals in these areas are being offered Kaikura free for a year.
“Most hair & beauty professionals are creative, constantly updating their technical skills and whilst they want to improve their business knowledge coaching or mentoring courses are incredibly expensive, and require significant time out of the salon, so are only accessible to about 5% of the industry. Kaikura is designed for everybody, filling a huge gap and supporting improved employability, which the government recognised in our grant application. I believe this is a game changer in the industry and will disrupt traditional business training models – for the benefit of the majority of hair & beauty professionals, not just a few.”
Kaikura is a Japanese word that means survives through all problems, courageous and optimistic. It’s a community of like-minded individuals and an inspiring collection of industry resources. Kaikura is the place to go for nurturing and guidance.
Kaikura is free for three days, allowing everyone to try before they buy. It is then £9.99 per month.
Packages for different salon sizes will be available soon.
Salons in the BCP area need to fill out their subscriber details on the website and as soon as they add their BH postcode the fee is reduced to £0.00.
