Along with Paris, Milan and New York, London Fashion Week is the go-to event to experience total-look beauty at its very best. LFW June 2023 showcases amazing hair as an integral part of its presentation.
We asked some of out top salon stylists and educators to comment on their favourite looks from LFW June 2023.
Blunt Bob

Ravensbourne University students showcased some gorgeous looks on this year’s catwalks, but a reoccurring hair look I noticed a few of the models sporting was the blunt bob. These were worn paired with a middle parting and high shine and the hair was styled taken back off the face and placed behind the ears for a further clean, chic finish. What’s great about this look is that although it looks simple, it still really makes a statement. The key to the style if that the bob is cut bluntly, hitting halfway down the neck, giving the hair a fresh and thick appearance.
I would always start by creating the look by using a product to prep the hair before styling such as KMS ThermaShape Quick Blow Dr and spraying the liberally through the hair. Then I would go in with my hairdryer with nozzle and round brush, drying the hair in sections to create a smooth finish and then going over dry hair with heated styling irons for a further sleek and frizz free finish. Finish by applying KMS TameFrizz De-Frizz Oil to the hair with a particular focus on the hair at at the front of the head and the hair going behind the ears. Tina Farey, Editorial Director at RUSH
’60s inspired volume/beehives
I loved this look from the Kwame Koranteng show. Volume and these 60s inspired beehive looks are making a comeback as we head further into 2023 and can be as bold or as subtle as the client likes. Whether hair is being worn up or down, incorporating some backcombing and a subtle beehive at the crown into the look is a great way to give it a fun yet elegant finish. I love how the model has paired it here with some face framing – a great way to give the style a more current, up to date finish for 2023. When backcombing hair, always use a soft bristle brush and tease the hair gently, working in small sections at a time before smoothing over. If you want more dramatic volume, spritz some volumising spray in the hair before teasing. Alex Thaddeus, Owner of Alex Thaddeus Hairdressing
Slick back middle parting
LULU LIU Couture show at London Fashion Week really caught my eye with many of the models rocking a slicked back style with a strong middle parting. They say sometimes less is more and this is definitely the case with this simple but glam look. Perfectly parted down the middle and effortlessly slicked back this hairstyle goes perfectly with the silk outfits modelled finished with a high shine. Gill Berry, JOICO
Volumised side part
Something I’ve noticed this London Fashion week is the amount of diversity in the looks, which I think is amazing. The look I am obsessing over is one that the Fashion Design students from the University of East London created. Afro hair is always going to create a statement, and this look was no different. Embracing the models’ natural curls while adding definition with a deep side parting. The look is natural, and easy to achieve, while still having a powerful effect with the volumising side part. Moving the parting a few inches from its natural place will not only increase volume but gives the model the illusion of an elongated face. Natural hair to create an effective look is defiantly something I want to see more of in the future. Darrel Starkey
Men’s slicked back wet look with kiss curls
Slicked back, wet look hairstyles have been on trend for a while now. It’s about time that we saw this trend evolve to the next level – cue adding in kiss curls! We have seen glimpses of kiss curls with celebrities trying out this trend and I loved that we saw more of these looks at the Daniel w. Fletcher AW23 show. This look is definitely more of a statement and may not be as ‘wearable’ as some, however, it’s the perfect look for those who like to be a little more adventurous with their hair and want all eyes to be on them. Using a gel or wax with a high shine finish is a must for this look, and this should be combed through the tail comb to distribute the product and also ensure it saturates the hair.
To create the kiss curls, use the tail end of your comb to remove a small area of hair at one side of the head, add some of your gel or wax to the area and use tail comb to create your curl, perfecting until you create your desired curl shape and placing the curl so that it is inwards towards the face. Repeat on the opposite side of the head if you wish and finish with some hairspray to lock the curls in place. This could be a particularly good look for clients with baby hair, whereby the baby hair sections can be used to create the kiss curls without having to take from the main section of the hair.
