Philipp Haug Shares His Relocating Experience

Philipp Haug is Schwarzkopf Professional education ambassador. Of German origin, he successfully relocated to London 15 years ago. He recently appeared on TV sharing the story of his career in hairdressing, his move to London and his a new partnership with another proudly German hairdressing name.

“I understood from a very young age that London is the capital of hairdressing,” explains Philipp Haug. “Especially where I’m now based in the West End, where so many amazing and famous hairdressers developed their careers. Everything happens here. I never planned to come forever though. I thought I’d only be here for a year! But 15 years later, things have turned out completely differently.”

Philipp relocated to London early in his career with his former employers, TONI&GUY. He has firmly established the capital as both his personal and professional base and was even named London Hairdresser of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards in 2018. “I did lots of interviews when I won,” says Philipp. “But when the pandemic started soon after, it was difficult to do more publicity back home. Now that our salon has opened, it felt like a really good time to talk about what I’ve been up to since.”

New Brand Partnership

Along with wife and business partner, Siobhan, Philipp joined Schwarzkopf Professional in November 2022, coinciding with the opening of their debut salon: Haug London Haus. With multiple award wins and a wealth of experience between them, Philipp and Siobhan are established globally for not just their beautiful, trend-led cut and colour, but for their directional and relevant approach to education.

As a proudly German company, Schwarzkopf Professional is a natural fit for Philipp, who will be teaching cut and colour courses both at home and internationally as well as using the brand portfolio in the salon. “It feels great to be partnering with a German brand,” he says. “I have lots of experience working with them when I lived at home, so it feels nice and familiar. We also wanted to bring a bit of my heritage into the salon brand – Haug London Haus – so partnering up with a German brand is amazing.”

Offering his advice to fellow hairdressers thinking of relocating for their careers, Philipp says: “Do it! The amazing thing about being a hairdresser is that you can work very easily anywhere: that’s what makes it so exciting. Working in a new country, things are culturally very different, which really helps you to learn. I think gaining international experience is great.”

Anything he wishes he’d known before he made the move? “I think actually nothing! I believe sometimes it’s good to not know too much and to be a little bit naive. That makes you brave – so just jump, and do it.”
