It’s been a busy month for The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Project Teams as the Project Afro, Project Extend and Project X have their April Team Days.
The Project Afro Team spent the day with Junior Green, a formidable force in the UK hairdressing scene and who, during his 34-year career, has received several accolades, including British Afro Hairdresser of the Year, Stylist of the Year and was also part of the Styling Team of the Year to name just a few. The team spent the day with Junior at Wella World Studio with a focus on bridal styling.
Chris Grimley comments: “Amazing day four with the legend that is Junior Green and such a generous caring soul too! Real honor to work with a legend in his field.”
The Project Extend team travelled to Sweet Squared, the HQ of Showpony in the UK, where Showpony’s Brand Master, Rachael Wilson, provided the team with an educational journey to showcase Showpony. Showpony is now Australia’s premier hair extensions brand, built on an extensive family history of 35 years combined experience in premium hair extensions and wig manufacturing. The team not only learnt about how the brand has evolved, but also learnt about tapes, skin weft, mini micro bead and weft in ways of how to volumise and lengthen with chemical free colour.
Marlene Lamont comments: “Rachael and Shanicka were both absolutely brilliant. Very inspirational and I loved the way the brand has a colour chart just like the ones we use in the salon. I love taking away new ideas and collaborating with other creatives, it pushes me to be better!!!! I really had another fantastic day of education and creativity, and lunch was fabulous. Thanks so much to Showpony, to my Project Extend family and to the Fellowship for making it possible”.
Lastly, Project X spent their team day with hairdressing entrepreneur, Ky Wilson at his salon in London, The Social. Ky Wilson’s motto is:” I don’t provide just a haircut; I promote a way of living. This is my lifestyle, it’s who I am, it’s what I do” and with that, Ky is a hairstylist in many variations! You can find him behind the chair at his salon, on set for shoots, music videos, campaigns and ‘how to’ tutorials, backstage for fashion shows, industry stage work and gigs and even popping up at festivals, burger bars and product launches. Ky shows that you can take your hairdressing skills to anywhere you want and it’s an amazing trade to swap for skills in return and this is something he wanted to share with the Project X team. Ky taught the team an array of different cutting skills and tips on putting together a shoot and how to create great content Ky is also a Leaf Scissors Ambassador, which have just become one of The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Project Men Brand Partners. The Leaf team provided a courtesy pair of Leaf Scissors on the day to the Projext X team.
Ky has now signed up to be a Mentor for The Fellowship and has his very own mentor page on the website. The Fellowship are looking forward to having Ky more involved in the company over the next few months. James Farrer comments: “The day we had with Ky Wilson was a great eye opener into content creation and client/model interaction, we had the chance to put on a small shoot which was totally unexpected but great to take tips for our upcoming Project X days.”
Annie Franklin comments “Our day with Ky was packed with inspiring and fun things. We learnt different cutting and texturing techniques on different hair types, all hands on with models. Then went on to styling it, how to create content and finished off with a photo shoot. We were so happy with our photos.”
