Styling for the Season with Gill Berry and Joico

As Autumn/Winter 2021 approaches, our attention as stylists turns to the busiest time of the year – the festive season! Appointments will be rare and clients excited to party into the new year. Having missed out on so much, it’s set to be one of the busiest festive seasons yet; it’s time to think about styling for the season to come.

“Styling for the season to come – and especially the festive season – is a great time of year to get creative. You can experiment with new styles, techniques and create beautiful hair. Inspiration comes in many forms, from the fashion powerhouses, social media and of course celebrities around the world. As trends begin to evolve, here we look at the top styles set to take the party season by storm.” Gill Berry, JOICO European Design Team Member.

The Bouncy Blowdry

It’s back and bigger than ever. This voluminous style is a favourite with all clients, however this year it will be the most requested look. Having missed out last year, 2021 is the year for excess volume, height and extreme shine. When creating this look, it’s important to create as much volume as possible. I would recommend prepping the hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Massage the products into the scalp and evenly distributing throughout the hair. Before beginning the blowdry, use two pumps of the JOIFULL Volumizing Styler, again evenly distributing throughout the hair. Using a large barrel brush, focus the heat at the roots and then lift and dry from root to tip. I would also recommend using the JOICO Style & Finish Humidity Blocker+ Protective Finishing Spray. This gives instant frizz reduction, eliminates static and boots shine, giving you the most incredible finished blow dry.

Braided Waves

This is one of my favourite trends that is not only popular in the summer months, but has evolved to become a real party favourite. This season the lattice braid will be the main element of the style, with the rest of the hair styles into gorgeous, soft waves. This braid method uses multiple strands of hair, weaved in different directions to create a basket-woven lattice look across the section. Creating this in a small square section will make a real statement. Finishing the look with a  professional shine spray will give it the perfect salon touch.

Half Up Half Down

A classic style but one that has evolved over the years. The modernised looks incorporates a relaxed up do braid and waterfall waves, bringing together two highly requested styles from our salons! A low maintenance, relaxed look this can be tailored to suit the client and their overall style. The braid can be more structured when creating a stronger look, or loosened when looking for a much more laid back style. The new JOICO RiseUp Powder Spray would be my product of choice in order to create this style, it gives instant volume, a mess free application and a long lasting flexible hold.
