TONI&GUY reopens hair salons in England with nationwide ‘We Care’ initiative on 4th July 2020

Following last week’s official phase two government ease on restrictions, industry leader TONI&GUY announces that 168 salons in England (pending Scotland for phase three from 15th July and with Wales currently at Amber stage with a date yet to be finalised)  will reopen as from this Saturday 4th July. The move sees the global group (650 salons in 50 countries) happy to be welcoming back clients (Jersey opened for business on 12th June) and where pending waiting lists are on average totalling 500 and up to 1,000 at the flagship in London’s Sloane Square.

A ‘WE CARE’ Initiative will be implemented with immediate effect and recognises the significance of providing reassurance to both staff and clients, as demonstrated through several agreed measures undertaken by TONI&GUY. This involves creating an environment, where overall well-being and safety are paramount to making sure that the experience is 100% relaxing throughout the appointment.

The initiative is underlined by TONI&GUY’s Client Care Promise – comprising four key areas of due diligence:

Implementing SOCIAL DISTANCING COMPLIANCE within the salons – By limiting the number of people looking after one client during the appointment journey, extending opening times, staggering appointments, and widening space between stations

An exclusive TONI&GUY GOLD STANDARD HYGIENE CODE – Which includes optimised levels of sanitised work surfaces/chairs, plus regular cleaning taking place throughout the day and daily staff self-temperature checks

Increased PROTECTION FOR STAFF – Who will be wearing masks and single use aprons, as well as increased washing of hands before and during appointments

Personal PROTECTION FOR CLIENTS  – Every client will be spoken to ahead of visits, staff will do phone/virtual consultations to cut time spent in salon and the provision of single-use protection packs i.e. masks, towels and hand sanitisers placed at each station

Says Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, Global Creative Director, TONI&GUY “TONI&GUY has been a family-owned business for over five decades. I believe that hairdressing is a vibrant industry and whilst the recent lockdown has been challenging –   the impact of which, is something we’ll likely never see again with such magnitude, this has been a once in a lifetime opportunity for our business both in the UK and globally.  It’s made us to review the business worldwide, plus the fact that our UK salon partners across 172 locations, have united to literally transform the look of each salon. This has been evident not just aesthetically – but where we have looked at every detail in terms of safety and protection.   During what has been almost four months, we have re-connected with our wider TONI&GUY family globally, in way that we’ve not previously seen and it’s been a personal mission of mine to ensure that education remains at the heart of the business – so we’ve been busy in preparation with our education leaders within the brand.  This has included providing no less than 8,000 downloads for staff with online learning and involved dual-training in both cut and colour, revising our collections, upskilling our assistants – plus delivering the brand new gold standard Client Care Promise which we’ve developed. As well as working on our re-opening strategy, we have also recently celebrated 15 years as Official Hair Partner of London Fashion Week.

The foundation of the business is underlined by caring for our clients and making them look and feel great. We have missed them, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back through our doors next week.”

As well as having reviewed how every TONI&GUY salon will operate for the foreseeable future in line with advice given by Public Health England, the company wishes to express its huge admiration of the tireless efforts shown by frontline NHS staff, health and carers working to combat COVID-19.

Over the last few weeks, TONI&GUY has supplied 20,000 hair packages as well as 35,000 pairs of disposable gloves in support of 20 hospitals and care homes across the UK, driven by a necessity to say ‘You looked after us, now let us look after you – we want to thank you!’

Additionally, as part of the forthcoming NATIONAL HAIR SUNDAY event, the company will also be joining with the wider hairdressing community to treat these deserving heroes.  Salon teams will coordinate later in July to offer complimentary cut and style services, as a small gesture to simply say thank you in appreciation for everything they have done and continue to do.

Originally founded  in 1963, TONI&GUY and has become one of the most recognised brands on British high streets over the last 57 years, literally looking after the hair of the nation and is proud to be back in business, supporting the UK’s economy.
