A recent survey* carried out by NIOXIN has shown that when it comes to female hair loss, there’s a lot we need to talk about. As a nation, and there’s still a giant stigma around women and hair loss.
The NIOXIN survey focussed purely on women who have experienced hair loss or thinning hair. It revealed that when it comes to women and hair loss they feel that the stigma needs lifting. The vast majority also said that there has been an impact on their mental health as a result of their hair loss.
- 81% of women think there is a stigma around women’s hair loss.
- 91% of women say that hair loss/ thinning hair has impacted on their mental health in some capacity.
- Nearly 30% of women have cancelled an event because of a bad hair day.
An incredible 90% of women would like to see more support, advice & products to help with hair loss/hair thinning.
A significant increase in demand
Mark Blake (MIT WTS IAT) is a leading globally-recognised trichologist with clinics in the Cotswolds and London. “This year, I have seen a significant increase in demand for thinning hair solutions,” he says. “My clinics are busier than ever with patients around the UK concerned about hair thinning and hair loss. This is particularly the case with female hair loss.
“It’s not necessarily full scale hair loss that affects people, but thinning hair will, at one stage or another, affect most people. The cause can be a wide range of factors. Stress, diet, and hormones are the main causes of thinning hair and hair loss, and very few of us can go through life avoiding these factors.”
Mark’s advice is not to ignore thinning hair and for expert advice, visit a trichologist. “A trichologist specialises in the hair and scalp and will get you on the right path for improving your hair health. The Institute of Trichologists website is a good place to start looking. In many cases the hair loss will be temporary, so I always advice patients to ‘fake it till you make it,’ with a haircare regime that gives you a helping hand,” he continues.
30 years of dedicated independent research
NIOXIN’s portfolio of care, styling and in-salon products are the result of more than 30 years of dedicated independent research. Nioxin is the only brand to be recommended by the Institute of Trichologists – the foremost professional association for the study and science of hair in the world.
Mark’s hero is Nioxin’s Anti-Hair Loss Serum with Sandalore. It’s clinically proven to reduce hair loss by 20% in only 8 weeks**,” says Mark. “Therefore, iit’s no surprise that it is highly requested. It thickens hair from its first use and clinical trials have shown that 91% of people using Nioxin Anti-Hair Loss Serum noticed reduced hair loss ***.”
