Are the Newspapers generating fake news for Barbers?

Fake news detection: This lab is using NLP and linguistics to ...

Don’t get too excited yet about the news on barbershops potentially reopening early. Officially nothing has changed from the government. So let us take a look at what’s been going on.

Sources including some of the national daily Newspapers have “claimed” that Boris Johnson apparently wants salons and barbershops to reopen ahead of schedule with dentist style PPE measures in place.

If this turns out not to be FAKE NEWS then this would mean all current government guidelines will soon be updating taking things in a new and different direction in the next two weeks.

As many of you know the date barbers have been given is the 4th July. But these printed news reports suggest this could be set to change because last week Health Secretary Matt Hancock implied he wanted to see the industry back up and running. So now the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror report that the Prime Minister too is said to be keen for salons and barbers to resume business before the end of the month.

According to the latest from the papers, Hairdressers will be asked to wear PPE and follow strict guidelines

It comes after pressure from the Hair and Barber Council to give the green light within the next two weeks.

If changes are made it could see the barbering sector re-opened in line with many non-essential shops on June 15. Although we are officially yet to hear it, many barbers and hairdressers will be glad to hear it as The National Hair and Beauty Federation surveyed 1,600 members and found 77% of respondents were “very well prepared” to re-launch.

So according to the newspapers, plans are understood to be being drawn up by the Department for Business, with similar guidance to dentists which are due to open on June 8th. Which would mean hairdressers and stylists are advised to wear face masks, perspex visors and gloves even though the current government guidelines as of today 4th June, states:

“If you do not normally wear a face mask, or any other PPE for work, then you do not need to because of coronavirus. There is currently no evidence that using face masks outside of a healthcare or clinical setting will protect people from coronavirus. Face coverings do not need to be worn in the workplace but employers should support their workers if they choose to wear one” You can find more on face coverings in the GOV.UK guides on Working safely during coronavirus.”

The Telegraph and Daily Mirror don’t tell us where they source their information from with quotes published:

“Hairdressers were supposed to be the next thing. Boris has talked about unleashing the great British haircut again. It would be treated under similar rules to dentists.”

Some other measures set to be introduced at dentists which could all be similarly introduced in the hair industry include temperature screenings and virtual consultations, while patients will be asked to attend appointments alone, unless accompanying small children.
Catherine Tannahill, director of clinical dentistry at Portman Dental Care, which has more than 130 practices, warned this week dentists may be “working longer hours” to accommodate “the backlog” – and it could be a similar story for hairdressers if the newspapers have got all this right.

What is EndoSan exactly?

EndoSan is a unique formula of hydrogen peroxide which has been stabilized and catalysed by the addition of a small quantity of silver.

How does EndoSan work?

While neither hydrogen peroxide nor silver are particularly very good water system disinfectants when used individually, the combination produces a superb biocide. The mechanism is thought to be as follows: Hydrogen peroxide is not very effective against bacteria because these micro-organisms can secrete catalase which reacts with hydrogen peroxide preventing it from reaching the cell wall and destroy the bacterium. Therefore, if hydrogen peroxide is used alone a huge quantity is required.  This is where the silver plays an important role.  The silver emits electrostatic which de-stabilize the bacteria defence system (catalase enzyme) and allow the hydrogen peroxide to attack and destroy the bacteria. When the bacterium is dead, it is no longer attracted by the silver which moves back into the bulk water pulling the hydrogen peroxide behind it. This makes the solution very stable in water. The product also effervesces on the pipe wall helping to remove biofilm. Essentially the product has the chemical and physical properties required to remove and treat biofilm.

How stable is EndoSan?

EndoSan will remain active in cold water for many days and possibly weeks, depending on dosage level, environmental conditions and water quality, and if there are no bacteria for it to kill or other organic material for it to react with. It is also stable up to 113ºC and therefore does not break down in domestic hot water systems (generally operating at around 60ºC).

Why do we need to disinfect?

Disinfection is different from cleaning.

Cleaning = the activity of making things clean, in a domestic or commercial environment.

Disinfection = the process that effectively kills or eliminates disease carrying microorganisms and prevent infection.

There are a lot of hydrogen peroxide products in the market, why EndoSan?

EndoSan is a unique formula and has gotten approvals from different organizations and governmental agencies worldwide in the past 25 years.

EndoSan provides 99.9% disinfecting ability as documented by scientific researches and laboratory tests worldwide.

The “Know how” of the manufacturing process is difficult to copy or imitate which gives the product the power to attack effectively all types of germs without any physical or chemical hazard.

Does EndoSan clean?

We recommend EndoSan for disinfection use after normal cleaning.

Is EndoSan safe for food?

Absolutely. EndoSan is safe for disinfection of fruits, vegetables, meat and fish by rinsing or washing at suggested dosage. EndoSan is also Halal certificated.

Are there any storage temperature constraints for EndoSan? Can it be stored outdoors?

Since EndoSan is formulated to be very stable, it can be stored outdoor in high temperatures. However, for best practice and to maximise product shelf life,  we recommend storage indoors and out of direct sunlight.

How can I check for the presence or residual level of EndoSan in water?

This can be checked by using peroxide testing strips, which we also provide, or by using a spectrograph (manual or automated).

Is EndoSan corrosive?

EndoSan is not corrosive at the recommended doses for most surfaces like stainless steel, aluminium, plastics, etc. Not recommended for use on brass or copper.

Does EndoSan bleach?

No EndoSan does not bleach at the recommended doses below 1%.

Does EndoSan damage skin tissue?

Not at recommended doses. EndoSan is skin safe below 3%.

Do I need to be concerned about the silver residue of EndoSan?

The silver content in EndoSan is at parts per billion (ppb) levels in all applications, which is minute and far less than international recommendations for safe consumption by humans.

Can EndoSan be mixed with other disinfection products?

We would not recommend you mix EndoSan with any other disinfection products.

Does EndoSan needs rinsing after application?

No, EndoSan consists of components which are biodegradable to two essential natural elements, water and oxygen.

What is EndoSan’s shelf life?

Under ambient conditions EndoSan has a shelf life of 3 years.

Don’t be a clown – Barbers not advised to wear a face mask

People are turning to unusual and inventive masks to beat COVID-19 ...

Employees are NOT advised to wear masks or face coverings when at work under government guidelines on how businesses can become “COVID-secure” but instead are to focus on cleanliness.

PPE for Barbers – what we know

For most people any potential infection from coronavirus will not be because of their work.

As a barber you do not normally wear a face mask, or any other PPE when at work in the barbershop, so you do not need to start wearing one now, just because of the coronavirus. There is currently no evidence that using face masks outside of a healthcare or clinical setting will protect you from coronavirus.

The government have said face coverings do not need to be worn in the workplace however, employers should support their workers if they DO choose to wear one.

“Face coverings are not a replacement for the other ways of managing risk, including time spent in contact, using fixed teams and partnering for close-up work, and increasing hand and surface washing.”

The guidelines explain that the priority is for the best part maintaining salon cleanliness. By addressing all potentially contaminated and high-contact areas within your barbershop such as bathrooms, door handles, telephones, chairs, grab-rails in corridors and stairwells so by keeping on top of your cleaning, you will be keeping your staff and customers safer.
